Mary Ellen ‘Ellen’ Leamer

Mary Ellen “Ellen” Leamer, 95, Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday morning at Altoona Regional of natural causes.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of Thomas G. and Grace (Snyder) Benton. She married James M. Leamer on Oct. 17, 1940, in Cumberland, Md., and he preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1973.

Surviving are three sons: James B. of Lakewood, Colo., Joseph P. (Babs) of Duncansville and John S. (Barbara) of Hollidaysburg; a daughter, Mary E. of Hollidaysburg; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Ann Ventre, and was the last of four sisters, being the oldest in the family.

Ellen was a 1935 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and a 1938 graduate of Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She retired as an RN from Altoona Hospital and continued as a private-duty nurse after retiring.

Ellen, affectionately known as “Mom Mom,” was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where she was a member and officer of the Ladies Guild.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Anthony Legarski. Committal will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.

The family requests that donations be made to St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary Ladies Guild, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648, in memory of Ellen.
