Mary Catherine ‘Mary Kay’ Ramsey

Mary Catherine “Mary Kay” Ramsey, 71, Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Spangler, daughter of the late George and Catherine (Austerman) Schnabel. She married Clifford Franklin Ramsey at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Spangler.

Surviving are her husband; four daughters: Melanie Ramsey of Hollidaysburg, Amber (Carmine) Fantini of Pittsburgh and her children: Joseph, Michael, Mia and Alana Fantini, Autumn Ramsey (Gaylen Gerber) of Chicago, Ill., and Caitlain (Joseph) LeDonne of Pittsburgh; and a brother, John (Lorraine) Schnabel of Davidsville.

She was preceded in death by a brother, G. Thomas Schnabel.

Mary Kay graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with an education degree concentrating in special education, and she worked for the Hollidaysburg Area School District and Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 for many years as a substitute, special education substitute and aide.

She was a music parent and a member of the Hollidaysburg Area Women’s Club and Friends of the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and St. Michael the Archangel Prayer Group, supported the humane society and loved attending Skip Sigel’s School of Dance with her friends. She fostered her love of music, literature and art in her children and was proud of their many creative accomplishments.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont, Monsignor Michael A. Becker officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.

Mary Kay requests that donations be made in her memory to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society or the capital campaign of the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library.
