E. Ruth Homer

E. Ruth Homer, 94, Altoona, died Saturday at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of Winfield and Esther (Smith) Gorsuch. On Feb. 17, 1937, she married Harold M. Homer in Cumberland, Md. He died on Nov. 27, 1986.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Glunt and husband, George, of Altoona; three grandchildren: Christine Glunt of Frederick, Md., Brian Glunt and Jan Glunt, both of Altoona; four great-grandchildren: Michael Dmytryshak, Ryan Glunt, Tyler Glunt and Kyla M. Paul; and four great-great-grandchildren: Emma L. Glunt, Cassidy Glunt, Paityn Glunt and Logan Dmytryshak.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Walter Gorsuch, Winfield Gorsuch, John “Jack” Gorsuch, Rae Auman, Jim Gorsuch and Fan Greene.

Ruth was a member of Fourth Lutheran Church.

She was a homemaker and previously was employed as a school guard for the Altoona Area School District from 1952-62.

She was a member of the Foster Grandparent Program from 1990-95.

At Ruth’s request, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the noon memorial service on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Hospital-UPMC, Pittsburgh; or the Foster Grandparent Program through Blair Senior Services.
