Doris Jean Stoehr

Doris Jean Stoehr, 83, formerly of Altoona, beloved sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away Thursday in Las Vegas, Nev.

She was the daughter of Edward and Madeline Dicken.

She will be deeply missed by her many friends and her beloved family, which consists of four children: Jack (deceased), Brian, Patrick (Denise) and Dianne (Chuck); 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a brother, Don (Carolyn).

Doris lived an exemplary life of love and service. This was evident in her years as a caring nurse, her four terms in the Peace Corps, where she served after her retirement, and in her daily interactions with all those who were blessed to have known her. She was a woman of faith who lived what she believed, being happiest when she was helping others.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont, by Monsignor Michael Becker.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Doris Stoehr Crosswalk Memorial Fund (Wells Fargo Bank). This was a cause Doris championed for a safe crossover for all residents at the Las Vegas Manor neighborhood, the exact location that sadly took her life.
