Chester L. Woomer

Chester L. Woomer, 85, Altoona, formerly of McKee, died Friday at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Chester R. and Verna (Clapper) Woomer. He married Lois A. Shaw on April 5, 1952, in Leamersville.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Carol Allebach and husband, Craig, of Warsaw, Ind., and a son, Leroy A. Woomer of Denton, Md.; three grandchildren: CJ Allebach of Warsaw, Ind., Matthew A. Woomer of Denton, Md., and Cara Drake of Winona Lake, Ind.; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Marian Edwards of Altoona; and two brothers: Donald Woomer of Hollidaysburg and Guy Woomer of McKee.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Woomer; and a sister, Ethel Wyland.
Chester was a member of Grace Fellowship Church-Leamersville Campus.
He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad after 44 years of service.
He attended Altoona High School.
He was a United States Naval veteran of World War II.
He enjoyed watching football and baseball and reading his Bible, which he would read through every year.
Chester was a life member of the Ray-Camp V.F.W. Post 7689, Roaring Spring.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Fellowship Church-Leamersville Campus by Pastor Mark Lingenfelter. Interment will be made at Martinsburg Mennonite (Sam Hill) Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Chester’s memory may be given to the Leamersville Life Savers or the Wyland Family Team, both of which are teams for the Cove Relay For Life.
