Trail to receive $247K
Washington Township has received $247,350 for improvements to the War Memorial Park/Paul A. Cooney Sports and Recreation Complex in Lilly.
Township supervisors said the money will be used to enhance the safety of an existing trail by adding light fixtures to each road crossing, extending the trail 1.5 miles and constructing two new bridges over Bear Rock Run.
The project also will include planting trees along the existing trail and addition of a new vegetation layer to aid in mitigating stormwater runoff. The area then will be converted to multi-use sports fields.
The grant money was awarded through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program.
