Mountain Lion Backpack fundraisers set

Two events will be held this week to benefit the Mountain Lion BackPack Program.

A fundraiser will be held today at Texas Roadhouse in Altoona, and on Friday, people have been asked to donate cans of soup during the Soup Drive that will be held during Elementary Night at the Altoona Area High School football game.

The Texas Roadhouse 10 percent fundraiser will be held from 3 to 10 p.m. Ten percent of your total food bill will be donated to the Mountain Lion BackPack program. Program supporters will be set up at Texas Roadhouse from 4 to 7 p.m. with information about the program. They will be holding a bake sale and selling Gardners Peanut Butter Meltaways.

Soups collected at the Altoona Area football game will be distributed to the district’s elementary school children in need to have food over weekends during the school year.

The program has said that 1 in 4 children struggles with hunger.

Another way to support the program is to help the Mountain Lion BackPack Program fight childhood hunger in the area by sponsoring a child. It costs $3 to feed one child for one weekend or $100 to feed them for the school year. A tax deductible donation would help the program purchase food to fill the backpacks.

Donations can be mailed to Mountain Lion BackPack Program, 2100 Sixth Ave., Altoona, PA 16602. Checks should be payable to Mountain Lion BackPack Program.
