CLEARFIELD — A Philipsburg woman pleaded guilty in Clearfield County Court on Monday to charges stemming from her attempt to steal a vehicle while it was parked at a convenience store.
Prior to sentencing for 30-year-old Abby Ann Ripka, it was noted that the original plea agreement for a 15-day minimum sentence was rejected because of guidelines requiring a minimum 30-day sentence for the crime.
After a drug test for which she tested positive for marijuana and alcohol, her attorney, Steven Johnson, asked President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to sentence her rather than rejecting the plea and revoking her bail.
Ammerman agreed and sentenced her to 30 days to one year in jail and two years’ consecutive probation for a felony count of theft by unlawful taking.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, at 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 31, the victim told police he saw Ripka attempting to steal his Honda parked at the Sheetz store in Decatur Township, but he was able to stop her by removing the car keys from the ignition.
