Ebensburg approves pipe replacement
EBENSBURG — Borough Council members awarded a contract to replace the main water pipe under Laurelbrook Road, and one borough official announced his retirement during a meeting Monday.
Council unanimously voted to give Kev’s Excavating a $67,600 contract to replace 400 feet of the 4-inch water pipe under a section of Laurelbrook Road that’s east of Crestwood Drive. The project also includes installing a new fire hydrant at the two streets’ intersection.
Officials said there is sufficient money available in the water reserve fund to complete the project.
Committee members gave reports, but little other action was taken by council at the regular meeting. Wastewater Plant Supervisor Mark Wirfel made a personal announcement during his report about plant activities — his retirement from the borough.
“I just want to thank everybody for the last 14 years that I got to serve the community,” he said.
Councilman Dave Kuhar congratulated Wirfel.
“Thank you everything you’ve done for us prior to being in charge there and while you were in charge.”
