Tyrone man held for choking woman

Gummo allegedly told victim he would kill her

From Mirror staff reports

A Tyrone man is in jail after police say he choked and threatened to kill the mother of his child.

Jared A. Gummo, 20, of 110 Pine St., is accused of forcing his way into the woman’s Tyrone Park apartment on the 1300 block of Washington Avenue twice on Sunday, according to Tyrone police.

Gummo allegedly got into the woman’s apartment through the back door about 1 p.m. and refused to leave. Police said the two started arguing and Gummo pushed the woman against a banister, knocking over some dishes, before he bit her and grabbed her around the throat.

Gummo allegedly told her he would kill her if she screamed for help.

The woman got away from Gummo after a relative arrived, but police said Gummo returned about 6:30 p.m.

Gummo allegedly entered the apartment again through the back door and ran to lock the front door.

When the woman tried to leave, he allegedly grabbed her, police said.

The woman got away when neighbors got in through the back door and restrained Gummo until police arrived.

Gummo was also charged last week with defiant trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia stemming from an incident on June 16 when Tyrone police found Gummo outside the apartment about 3 a.m. Gummo allegedly told police, “I know I’m not supposed to be here” and explained that he was returning an ACCESS card.

Police said Gummo had been banned from the Tyrone Park Apartments.

Gummo now faces separate charges in both incidents Sunday that include charges of felony burglary and criminal trespass as well as misdemeanor counts of strangulation, false imprisonment and simple assault.

Bail was set at $25,000 cash on each of the two cases from Sunday and Gummo’s preliminary hearings are slated for July 2 in Tyrone District Court.

His preliminary hearing on the charges filed in connection to the alleged incident of June 16 is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 6, but court personnel indicated that hearing may be moved to coincide with Gummo’s July 2 court appearance.
