A 57-year-old Altoona man faces charges he sexually assaulted a 7-year-old boy.

David E. Christy, of 1453 Riggles Gap Road, was arrested Monday by Altoona police detectives after an investigation into allegations Christy fondled a 7-year-old boy in Juniata last August.

According to the charges, Christy is accused of crawling into the boy’s bed and fondling the child until the boy awoke. The boy then told a family member and the alleged incident was reported to police.

During Christy’s arraignment on Monday afternoon, Altoona police Detective Cpl. Shane Strobel asked for cash bail and told Magisterial District Judge Daniel DeAntonio that Christy has two prior sex crime convictions from 1986, including a conviction for indecent assault and a conviction for statutory rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault and corruption of minors.

Judge DeAntonio set bail for Christy at $35,000 cash and imposed conditions on bail that include no contact with the alleged victim as well as no unsupervised contact with any other children.

Christy was taken to Blair County Prison after his arraignment and is scheduled to appear at Central Court for a preliminary hearing on June 19.
