Torture hearing postponed
Couple allegedly kidnapped, raped man
The preliminary hearing for a pair charged in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a man has been continued until later this month.
Justin Keller, 34, and Tara Sprankle, 37, appeared at Central Court on Wednesday for their scheduled preliminary hearing on kidnapping, rape and related charges stemming from the alleged binding and torture of a man police say Keller then raped.
Sprankle is being represented by the Blair County Public Defender’s office, and Keller was awaiting a court-appointed attorney as of Wednesday afternoon.
The case has been rescheduled for May 29. Keller’s bail remains at $350,000 cash and Sprankle’s bail is $250,000.
Altoona police allege the pair handcuffed the man and taped him to a chair before torturing him for hours the night of May 6 over a $700 drug deal.
Keller is then accused of raping the man while Sprankle left her Seventh Avenue apartment to try to get money from the man’s father. The two were arrested May 7 after they released the man and he called police.
