Police: Woman stole cartload from Walmart

From Mirror staff reports

A Huntingdon County woman is in Blair County Prison after police say she tried to steal a shopping cart full of merchandise from an Allegheny Township store.

Bridget A. Bark, 35, of Warriors Mark was found hiding in the bathroom of Music Emporium in the Plank Road Commons shopping center after Walmart personnel called police about 4 p.m. Monday to report a woman matching her description had tried to leave the store with a shopping cart full of items she hadn’t bought, according to charges filed by Allegheny Township police.

Police said Bark initially tried to pull away from Allegheny Township Police Chief Leo Berg when he tried to put her in handcuffs and that Bark has seven previous retail theft convictions dating back to 2003.

Bark allegedly had 37 items priced at $307.21 in the shopping cart, and when store security tried to stop her, she allegedly fled across the plaza to the other store. Police were directed to the bathroom of Music Emporium where Bark was found by employees.

Police said Bark had syringes and other drug paraphernalia in her backpack when she was arrested.

Bark is charged with felony theft, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arraigned Monday night by Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner and lodged in Blair County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $25,000. A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Steve Jackson is scheduled for May 23.
