Police: Father, son beat each other

Duo face charges for argument that turned physical

An Altoona father and son face charges after police say they beat each other with a piece of wood.

Mark Socey, 47, and Ronald Socey, 72, both face charges that include aggravated assault after Altoona police responded to a duplex on the 1900 block of West Chestnut Avenue about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday when the two men started brawling after an argument.

According to charges filed by police, the argument started when Mark Socey asked his father for $20 and the two walked outside and started shoving and pushing each other.

A short time later, Mark Socey confronted his father again and the two men walked outside and started to argue after Mark Socey allegedly said, “I’m gonna kill you some day.”

The argument turned physical when Mark Socey hit his father in the face and Ronald Socey then picked up a piece of wood about 17 inches long and struck his son four or five times, knocking him to the ground.

Police said Ronald Socey then got on top of Mark Socey and pressed his son to the ground, saying “I hope you die and go to hell.”

After a few minutes, Mark Socey managed to roll Ronald Socey off of him, grab the piece of wood and strike his father on the head.

When police arrived, Ronald was on top of his son, and the two were separated.

Police said that, according to Blair County 911 records, officers have responded to the duplex 12 times for disturbances between the father and son since January 2018.
