Police: Woman stole $131,000

Bushore allegedly took money from medical practice

A Claysburg woman faces felony charges after state police allege she embezzled about $131,000 from a Logan Township medical practice.

Danielle M. Bushore, 42, of Claysburg, appeared Friday before Magisterial District Judge Steven Jackson for her arraignment on felony theft and receiving stolen property charges stemming from a state police investigation that started in February 2018 into missing money at Advanced Regional Center for Ankle and Foot Care, located at 711 Logan Blvd.

According to charges filed by state police, Bushore started working at the business as a billing supervisor in 2012 and was in charge of depositing cash into Advanced Regional’s bank account. She quit in May 2017.

State police said said the practice’s management and majority owner met with a state police investigator in February 2018 and provided spreadsheets outlining discrepancies between dollar amounts on cash deposit slips filled out by Bushore and dollar amounts tracked by the practice’s computer records.

The investigation allegedly showed that starting in 2014, deposit slips filled out by Bushore were short by hundreds and thousands of dollars each month. In early 2014, there were two deposits that were short by $200 and $1,700, and then after no discrepancies in March or April of that year, “the discrepancies become regular throughout the following years,” Trooper Jeffrey Ebeck noted in the charges.

The investigation found that between May 2014 until May 2017, a total of about $131,000 in cash was not deposited into Advanced Regional’s bank account.

State police noted a check of Bushore’s financial records and credit history allegedly showed thousands of dollars in cash deposits at a credit union where Bushore and her husband, because of their poor credit history, were not allowed to have a checking account and instead any deposits they made had to be loaded onto a third-party prepaid card that they could then use.

State police pointed out that Bushore and her husband filed for bankruptcy in 2003 and emerged from the process in early 2004.

Her credit report allegedly shows she has about $78,000 in past due debt and a total balance of about $277,000.

Also, Bushore spent “what was perceived to be substantial amounts of money on numerous recreational activities, including gambling,” the investigator wrote in the charges.

After obtaining a court order, state police received records about Bushore from Rocky Gap Casino in Flintstone, Md., from August 2013 until the present. State police said that Bushore’s “coin in” totals at the casino came to $119,641.21.

State police contend that much of what Bushore told investigators during lengthy interviews “was eventually debunked after further investigation” and that she also downplayed her spending at the casino.

Bushore was released Friday on an unsecured $50,000 bond after her arraignment, and she is scheduled to appear before Jackson on June 13 for a preliminary hearing.
