Callahan tops Grove in Frankstown Twp.

It looks like the Frankstown Township auditor will be the newest township supervisor after he defeated a longtime supervisor for the Republican nomination, with no Democratic candidates.

James Callahan, who has served the township as auditor for the past six years, took 53.49 percent of the vote or 582 votes while incumbent Supervisor James Grove got 46.51 percent of the vote or 506 votes, according to unofficial reseults.

Grove has served as supervisor in the township for many years, holding the position of vice chairman and chairman of the board at various times.

Callahan was not available for comment Tuesday night.

He had told the Mirror that he is a retired 35-year employee PennDOT highway foreman who graduated from Altoona Area High School and attended Penn State University from 1970 to 1971.

He lives on Sylvan Oaks Drive in Hollidaysburg. He said he ran for the supervisor’s post because he thought the township needed “new ideas to continue to move the township forward with new technology while still being fiscally responsible.”

Callahan, who is 66, is single with three children and five grandchildren.

Although he will face no opposition on the GOP ballot in the fall, he could still face a write-in opponent.

Township supervisors serve six-year terms.
