Veteran outreach sessions planned
Veteran Community Initiatives Inc. will hold two Rural Veteran Outreach Programs in the area.
The first session will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bedford American Legion, 3721 Business Route 220 North in Bedford.
Another session will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Huntingdon VFW at 520 Penn St., Huntingdon.
The events will provide information to veterans and their families about potential benefits available to them.
“We strive to reach as many individuals as possible and clear up what is out there for our area veterans,” said Tom Caulfield, VCI Director. “Part of that process is to bring out representatives from a number of organizations who offer an array of services to our veteran community.”
Presenters will provide attendees with information concerning medical care, disability claims, job search assistance, and information about Veterans Court and Operation Family Caregiver.
Some of those who will be on hand at Wednesday’s event include representatives from the Bedford County Veteran Affairs Office, Bedford County commissioners, the Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona, DuBois Vet Center, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Veterans Leadership Program, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey’s office, state Rep. Carl Metzgar’s office, state Rep. Jesse Topper’s office, Bedford County Food Bank, Center for Community Action and the Area Agency on Aging.
All veterans, family members and friends are welcome. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided. Future outreaches are scheduled for Huntingdon, Elk, Jefferson, Somerset, and Cambria County.
