HOPEWELL

Traffic to switch on Hopewell project

PennDOT has announced that traffic will be switched on Tuesday on the Hopewell Bridge Replacement Project in Hopewell Borough, Bedford County.

The contractor, HRI Inc. of State College, will use temporary concrete barriers to switch traffic to the opposite side of state Route 26, and will re-set the temporary traffic signals.

Throughout the rest of the week, there will be flagging with delays while overhead utilities are removed. Delays will be likely. Motorists are advised to allow extra time or seek and alternate route.

Project work consists of replacement of the Hopewell Bridge that carries Route 915 over the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River, realignment of Route 26, construction of retaining walls along the river, rock slope stabilization and slope lay back operations.

Temporary traffic signals and a detour of Route 26 during blasting and excavation operations also will take place.

Work on the $11 million project is expected to be completed by July 2020.

STATE COLLEGE

Traffic pattern to change on I-99

PennDOT has announced a change in the traffic pattern for the cable median barrier installation project along more than 13 miles of roadway in Centre, Clinton, Mifflin and Juniata counties.

The project is being done to enhance safety for motorists and reduce the potential for head-on collisions on high-volume traffic routes.

Beginning Monday, the contractor will implement a long-term closure of the left passing lane on I-99 southbound between mile markers 78 and 73. This closure will be lifted at noon Friday on a weekly basis as the work progresses. The contractor will implement short-term daylight closures on the northbound lanes and shoulders between State College and Bellefonte. Travel delays should be expected, and drivers should be alert for slow moving and stopped vehicles throughout the work zone.

Work includes excavation of the median, installation of reinforcement bars and pouring concrete for the median barriers.

New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc. is the contractor on the $3.3 million project, which is expected to be finished by mid-December.

PORT MATILDA

Worth Township bridge work to start

PennDOT has announced that work to replace a Worth Township bridge in Centre County will begin Monday.

The bridge spans Ardery Run on Ardery Hollow Road, T-348, east of Port Matilda. Replacing the bridge will provide a new, modern structure while eliminating a bridge in “poor” condition.

On Monday, flaggers will enforce an alternating traffic pattern while a temporary roadway is built to carry traffic around the work zone. Utility work also will take place during construction of the temporary road. Once the temporary road is complete, traffic will be switched on to it and replacement work will begin.

The existing bridge is 35-feet long and was built in 1955. It will be replaced with a box culvert.

Other work includes paving and roadway markings.

HRI Inc. of State College is the contractor on the $665,000 project, which is expected to finish in early November.
