Man jailed on 109 charges
BEDFORD — A New Enterprise man is in jail on more than 100 criminal charges stemming from accusations of sexually assaulting and threatening to kill two minors.
Stephen John Beegle, 45, of 2088 Salemville Road, faces 109 charges that include numerous counts of rape by threat of forcible compulsion, rape of a person less than 13 years old, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 13 years of age and indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age.
State police said they received a report of a sexual assault Tuesday by a victim’s mother who told them Beegle has raped her daughter since she was 4 years old. The victim is now 21.
The mother said she was told this by another victim, who also claimed Beegle raped him about 10 times between the ages of 7 and 9.
The male victim allegedly said the incidents occurred on Quaker Valley Road in East St. Clair Township. He also said Beegle threatened to kill him if he told anyone about the sexual assaults, a police criminal complaint states.
When interviewed Tuesday, the female victim confirmed her mother’s report to police, saying Beegle began raping her when she was 4 years old up until Tuesday morning, police said.
When the victim was 4 years old, Beegle would reportedly wake her up about midnight and have her come to his bedroom to perform oral sex on him.
As she got older, she said Beegle started having sex with her and that vaginal and oral sex continued to happen several times a week. She added she never told anyone because Beegle threatened to kill her, her family and himself, according to police.
The female victim also claimed that when she was at a home Tuesday morning with Beegle and her 3-year-old daughter, Beegle told her to go to the bedroom where he held her down on the bed and forcibly had sex with her.
Police said she went to UPMC Bedford on Tuesday to submit to a sexual assault exam.
The alleged sexual assaults between Beegle and the female victim happened at four different locations in Bedford County: on Black Valley Road in Everett, Lumbar Street in Osterburg, Quaker Valley Road in New Paris and Salemville Road in New Enterprise.
Beegle was arraigned Wednesday morning in front of Magisterial District Judge Tonya Osman.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 8 in front of Osman.
Beegle is housed at the Bedford County Jail in lieu of a cash bail of $750,000.
