Haugh seeks Altoona Area School Board post

Eric C. Haugh, 47, of Cogan Road, has cross-filed and will appear on the Republican and Democratic ballots for the Altoona Area School Board on the May 21 primary.

“If elected, I will work to reduce spending, provide a fair contract for the teachers and improve education to better prepare all students for post-secondary education,” Haugh said in a release.

Haugh has been married for 26 years and has three children. Two are graduates of Altoona Area High School and currently attend college. The third is a sophomore at Altoona High School.

“I am pro-union having worked for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. near Pittsburgh and for a union mechanical contractor here in town,” he states.

A graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Haugh is a registered professional engineer and is a principal at Pyramid Engineering, a small engineering firm in Altoona. In addition to engineering, he also performs the accounting duties as well as manages the retirement and health care plans.

“I have good construction knowledge of public school work being that my firm provides engineering services to multiple school districts throughout Pennsylvania and Virginia,” he said.

“I volunteered six years as an Altoona junior high assistant soccer coach for both the girls and boys teams. I volunteered seven years as the Altoona Soccer Club president and am currently on the board as the treasurer. I also serve on the PA West Soccer Association Youth Board as the Mountain District director,” his release stated.
