Low flying aircraft spotted

Several Blair County residents reported seeing a large military-style aircraft flying at low levels on Thursday.

The Mirror was unable to confirm the aircraft’s origin, but it may have been associated with the West Virginia Air National Guard training base in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Information posted online by the training base reported that 2019 would be full of opportunities for training in various locations.

Residents in Eldorado, Frankstown, Pleasantville, Blue Knob, Duncansville and nearby areas made online postings about seeing and hearing the aircraft between 2 and 5 p.m. Those who reviewed online videos identified the aircraft as a Boeing C-17, which is an aircraft used by training crews in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Air traffic controllers in Johnstown who monitor use of air space in central Pennsylvania reported no communication with the aircraft because of low flying levels.
