Two face assault charges

Two men face charges after police say they got into a fight that spilled onto an Altoona street.

Quinten S. Patterson, 23, of 1648 St. Francis Lane, and Johnny C. Benton 31, of 1067 Logan Ave., Tyrone, were arrested Friday morning after Altoona police were called to the 200 block of Second Street about 6:30 a.m. Friday.

According to police, witnesses said the two men were punching each other and yelling, and after talking to Benton and Patterson, police learned the two had gotten into an argument while driving before Patterson punched Benton in the face. Benton parked his vehicle and the two exchanged punches and after they got out of the vehicle, Benton tried to talk Patterson into going inside “without making a scene,” police said.

Once inside a home on the 200 block of Second Street, Patterson allegedly picked up a coffee pot and struck Benton’s father in the head.

Patterson and Benton were released on unsecured $10,000 bonds after their arraignment on misdemeanor simple assault and related summary charges. A preliminary hearing is slated for April 3 at Central Court.
