From Mirror staff reports
Tim Surkovich has announced his candidacy for the Hollidaysburg Area School Board on both the Republican and Democratic ballots.
Surkovich, of Claravista Drive, Hollidaysburg, has been a resident of the district since 1999. He is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with degrees in business education and management information systems.
Surkovich is also an instructional technology specialist and has worked in both the private sector and public education.
He has held positions as a business education instructor, grant program coordinator, adult evening technology instructor, project tracking administrator, PC/network manager, technology coordinator, network administrator and technology lead teacher.
Surkovich is an active member of his church and is a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as the group’s financial secretary, webmaster, program director, membership director, home association board member and on the fundraising committee.
Surkovich oversees the Project Diagnosis Foundation, giving back to the Multiple Sclerosis Society through music.
He also manages the Contemporary Christian group 3: Four One. His community efforts earned him Hollidaysburg Citizen of the Year in 2016.
Surkovich states that his campaign will focus on providing quality education to the students of the district.
If elected, he would do this, he states, “by providing the necessary resources to the administration and staff in order to ensure this level while being fiscally responsible.”
He states that his years of experience in education and the private sector give him firsthand knowledge of the complex decisions a school board member may face and will aid him in the decision-making process.
