Students place in AgriScience event

Five Tyrone Area High School agricultural students captured first-place honors in the Pennsylvania State FFA AgriScience Competition at the Pennsylvania Farm Show.

Garin Hoy captured first places for grades 9-10 in the food products and processing systems competition; MaKenna LaRosa and Jacey Whitcomb for grades 11-12 in the animal systems competition; Karly Diebold for grades 9-10 in the environmental and natural resources system competition; and Haylee Blowers for grades 11-12 in the social systems competition.

Farm Bureau wins awards

Pennsylvania Farm Bureau won “Awards of Excellence” in all four program activity areas, including Advocacy; Engagement and Outreach; Leadership and Business Development; and Membership Value; during the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 100th annual meeting in New Orleans.

Aside from the Awards of Excellence, PFB received the Apex Award from the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.

AFBFA also presented PFB with the State Leader Award, the Challenge Award and the $850 for 85 Challenge Award.


Area man to make forage presentation

A local man will be one of the presenters at the 2019 Pennsylvania Forage Conference Feb. 21 at the Grantville Holiday Inn.

The conference includes farmer speakers who have years of experience of making dry hay, haylage and grazing.

George Lake of Thistle Creek Farms, Tyrone, will give a presentation on “Operation Overview.”
