NORFOLK, Va.

NS OKs dividend increase

Norfolk Southern Corporation announced Wednesday that its board of directors approved an 8 percent increase in its quarterly dividend on the company’s common stock, from 80 to 86 cents per share.

The dividend is payable March 11 to shareholders of record on Feb. 4. Since its inception in 1982, Norfolk Southern has paid dividends on its common stock for 146 consecutive quarters.

Norfolk Southern is to announce its fourth-quarter results this afternoon.

Food safety class set

Starting in 2020, the Pennsylvania Food Code will require that the person in charge of a food service operation be a certified food protection manager — and such a person must be onsite at all times during operating hours. That means at least one employee on each shift must become certified.

To help food establishments meet this requirement, Penn State Extension is offering the ServSafe Food Safety Manager Course.

The course will be held at Penn State Extension-Huntingdon County, 10722 Fairgrounds Road, Suite 6, Huntingdon, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 19 and from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 26 with the certification exam starting at 1 p.m.

The course fee of $185 covers the cost of the most recent edition of the ServSafe Manager book, exam, answer sheet and learning materials.

Rock Spring Lodge open

Rock Spring Lodge, a new short-term rental property, is now open for business.

The newly renovated historic property is a part of Bedford’s storied history with connections to George Washington and the Whiskey Rebellion.

The 10-acre property sits behind the Elks Golf Course on South Richard Street and borders Shobers Run.

A large flagstone patio, stone outdoor fireplace and pond are center pieces of the property. The 5,900-square-foot lodge includes four suites, each with their own bath, a large great room, two full kitchens and two dining rooms.
