PSU tickets to cost more; game day parking to change

UNIVERSITY PARK — It’s going to cost fans more to attend Penn State football games in 2019, and the university also has announced changes in parking and traffic patterns.

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics announced Friday that public 2019 season football tickets will increase by $2 per game. Nittany Lion Club required payment levels will remain the same for next season, which will feature seven games in Beaver Stadium.

The price of season car and overnight RV parking permits will remain the same for 2019.

“We are grateful for the outstanding support from Penn State alumni, students and fans for Nittany Lion football,” said Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour in a statement. “The investment of resources, time and passion our season ticket holders make in our program and the electric atmosphere they create in Beaver Stadium are unrivaled. The decisions we make come with careful deliberation about the potential impact on our loyal fans and community, improving the overall fan experience and the conditions for success we create for our student-athletes.”

In an effort to address traffic and parking challenges, Penn State will implement changes for traffic and parking for the 2019 football season.

This will include the creation of four traffic zones and designating game day parking for general parking lots. Fans are advised that the names or numbers of some parking lots will change. Penn State will continue to offer three tiers of parking: reserved, preferred and general.

Fans will be required to enter the game day traffic pattern and travel to their specific Beaver Stadium lot from one of four traffic zones: north, south, east and west. All parking permits will have zone and lot specific driving direction instructions.

The creation of the four traffic zones will assist in easing congestion on the routes leading to stadium lots, eliminate traffic at the pedestrian-heavy intersection of Park Avenue and Porter/Fox Hollow roads and create a more predictable volume of traffic, according to a Penn State press release.

Penn State will only offer three general parking cash lots on game day, be open while space remains and located in the north, west and east traffic zones.

Handicap parking will be unaffected.

Fans who purchased yellow season parking for the 2018 season will need to renew their parking permits and select a specific general lot for the 2019 season. The selection process for all general parking lots will take place after Feb. 1.

Season overnight RV pricing for 2019 will remain the same at $1,000 for Friday arrival or $1,400 for Thursday arrival.

The price for advance single-game car parking will increase by $5 to $25 and any fees from Penn State will be eliminated if purchased in-person at the Athletic Ticket Office in the Bryce Jordan Center.

Information on student season football tickets and single game public variable ticket pricing will be announced in early 2019.

Season ticket deposits are available, and more than 1,100 new season tickets have already been sold.
