C-K board member resigns due to health
Barnes has served since June 2000
A longstanding Claysburg-Kimmel board member is resigning because of health reasons, an action the school board accepted at Wednesday’s meeting.
“I do not feel it is in the best interest of the district not to be working with a full board. Because of health reasons, I do not know when I would be able to return,” board member Cathy Barnes said in her resignation email. “I feel the district is in a good place and has the right people to do the best for our students. I have enjoyed the years on the board and will miss it.”
Superintendent Darren McLaurin said the last day for Barnes will be Dec. 31. The board is advertising for her position on the school district website and Facebook page.
“She’s been a great board member and very supportive of everything we’ve done and will be very much missed by all the other board members and administrators,” McLaurin said.
The board is hoping to fill the position at its Jan. 9 meeting, according to McLaurin.
Barnes served on the board since June 2000, said the board’s business manager, Michelle Smithmyer.
The school board also re-elected Richard Gergely as president and Shelda Repko as vice president Wednesday.
