Accident results in gun charges

Homestead man prohibited from having weapons

From Mirror staff reports

A Homestead man with a criminal record faces charges of possession of firearm prohibited and firearms not to be carried without a license.

William Homer Grayson, 41, of 246 E. 17th Ave., reportedly had a firearm, a magazine with 10 live rounds and a nylon holster in the back of his pants when police extracted him from a forklift he was trapped under at the Giant Eagle in the Logan Town Center on Nov. 20.

When police brought Grayson to UPMC Altoona, an officer allegedly found the firearm, rounds and holster, but noticed the defendant did not have a concealed carry permit.

An officer ran a criminal background check on Grayson and discovered the defendant had pleaded guilty to robbery, receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking in 1994, according to a police complaint.

Grayson has an unsecured bail of $75,000.

He was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Steven Jackson.

His preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 20 before Jackson.
