Local businesses to honor veterans

In observance of Veterans Day, a number of area businesses are offering special discounts to veterans and members of the active duty military. A military ID or proof of service is required.

– For the 11th year, Applebee’s restaurants nationwide on Sunday will offer all veterans and active-duty military a complimentary full-size entree from an exclusive menu. Veterans and active-duty military simply must show proof of military service.

– The Outback Steakhouse in Altoona will offer veterans 20 percent off of their entire check through today. Veterans must provide valid state or federal service ID. On Sunday, Outback is offering military a free Bloomin’ Onion and a nonalocholic beverage with valid state or federal service ID.

– Eat’n Park Restaurants is offering a 10 percent discount off their entire check for the month of November. The discount applies to all meals on the active or former military personnel’s check. The discount runs through Nov. 30 at all Eat’n Park locations. The veterans’ discount is not valid for takeout or online orders and cannot be combined with any other discounts. Proof of military service is required.

– Hoss’s Steak and Sea House locations will offer free to veterans on Monday their salad and dessert bar or they can purchase a meal and add the salad bar for free. The offer is good from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Proof of military service is required.

– On Sunday, Sheetz invites all veterans and active duty military personnel to enjoy a free 6-inch turkey sub and a regular size fountain drink at any Sheetz location. Sheetz locations offering carwashes will also provide a free carwash to veterans and active duty military. Military ID or proof of service must be presented.

– Texas Roadhouse invites veterans and active members of U.S. military to enjoy free lunch from 11 a.m. to

2 p.m. Sunday. All veterans, including all active, retired, or former U.S. military, can choose one of 10 entrees from a special Veterans Day menu, including a soft drink, tea or coffee. Proof of service includes military, VA card or discharge papers.

– Primanti Bros. Restau­rant and Bar is offering a free classic “Almost Famous” sandwich to all veterans and active duty military on Sunday. The sandwich deal is available all day at all locations, including the Altoona area. Customers will be asked to provide a military ID.

– The Blue Knob Clubhouse Bar & Grille at Blue Knob All Seasons Resort is offering veterans and active duty military a free appetizer Saturday and Sunday with a military ID or proof of service.
