Grand jury indicts Loretto inmates
A federal grand jury has indicted three inmates at the Federal Correctional Institution in Loretto for possession of prohibited items in separate cases, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said Wednesday.
Mark Viboll, 30; David Smeltzer, 37; and Samuel Vargas, 32, were each indicted by a grand jury in Johnstown after allegedly being found with buprenorphine, an opioid sometimes used to treat narcotic addictions.
If found guilty, the men could face maximum sentences of 20 years in prison and fines of $250,000 or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the defendant’s prior criminal history, according to a release from Brady’s office.
