Fleeing police leads to charges

Tyrone man jailed after running away into woods

From Mirror staff reports

TYRONE — A Tyrone man is behind bars after running into the woods to get away from police two weeks ago.

Jacob Ewing, 35, of 323 Village Drive, was arraigned Monday morning on a felony count of flight to avoid apprehension and placed in Blair County Prison in lieu of $50,000 cash bail set by Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner.

According to charges filed by Tyrone police, Ewing ran from an officer and two state constables the afternoon of Oct. 1, when Ewing saw them approaching his mobile home on Village Drive. Ewing had three outstanding Blair County warrants and a Centre County warrant, police noted.

Ewing, who was at the back of the home near a shed, turned and ran across a makeshift footbridge and into the woods.

Police searched the area for Ewing after officers lost him when he ran through a thick patch of brush. Police were told by a woman who lives with Ewing that he would hide in the woods and that he ran because he knew he had outstanding warrants.

Ewing is due to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller on Oct. 23.
