Police: Grandson stole gun
From Mirror staff reports
An Altoona man is accused of stealing his grandmother’s gun.
Matthew J. Reese II, 21, of 309 Fourth Ave., was arrested about 8 p.m. Saturday on the 800 block of Fifth Avenue after Altoona police were dispatched for a report of four males and gun, according to charges filed this weekend before Magisterial District Judge Daniel DeAntonio.
Police said Reese and two of the other males were found standing outside a home on the 800 block of Second Avenue next to a car that matched the description given by a witness. When officers checked the area for the fourth male, a purple handgun was found leaning against the foundation of a nearby building.
Reese allegedly confessed that he put the gun inside the bushes outside the building before he went inside and when he came out, the police were there.
The gun had been stolen from Reese’s grandmother, police said. Along with the stolen gun, Reese also had a small bag of marijuana on him when he was frisked, police said.
Reese is charged with felony theft and receiving stolen property, along with carrying a gun without a license. He is also charged with misdemeanor possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was released on a unsecured $20,000 bond and is due to appear at Central Court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 10.
