Police: Man was drunk before being hit with Taser

A Tyrone man faces charges after police say he passed out in the middle of the road and then had to be hit with a Taser.

John S. Dean, 55, of 3020 Hundred Springs Road, was taken to Tyrone Regional hospital by ambulance the afternoon of Sept. 1 when he allegedly fell and struck his head on a stop sign post after Tyrone police used a Taser to subdue him.

According to charges filed by Tyrone police, Dean was found passed out in the middle of the road at Columbia Avenue and 23rd Street just before 5 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Police had dealt with Dean a few hours earlier after he allegedly became belligerent with some customers at a local bar and was asked to leave. A relative had picked him up to take him to his aunt’s home in Warriors Mark, but police said Dean got out of the truck and ultimately ended up passed out in the street.

When Tyrone police arrived and Dean was told he was being cited for public drunkenness and would be taken to his aunt’s home, he allegedly said, “No,” and started walking away. When an officer grabbed his arm, Dean allegedly pulled away and tried to walk away.

Dean was then hit with a Taser probe, prompting him to tell the officer, “You

didn’t have to f—ing Tase me.” When Dean was hit with another probe, he tensed up, fell to the ground and struck his head.

An ambulance was then called and he was taken

for treatment at Tyrone Regional.

Dean now faces charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
