Bedford Heritage Trail gets funding

$2.5M will allow for construction of extension

The state will invest federal funding into the north extension of the Bedford Heritage Trail in Bedford County.

“The Bedford Heritage Trail is an excellent example of what great things can be accomplished when officials, municipalities, agencies and citizens work together toward a common goal,” PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards said. “This beautiful trail will be available for citizens and visitors of Bedford County to enjoy for generations.”

The investment will allow for the construction of the north extension of the Bedford Heritage Trail from Fort Bedford Park to Old Bedford Village and Friendship Village. It will allow downtown Bedford visitors to walk or bike to these two tourist attractions.

Currently, the approximately 2.65-mile Bedford Heritage Trail connects the Omni Bedford Springs Resort with downtown Bedford and Fort Bedford Park.

The Bedford Heritage Trail North Extension Project will receive $2.5 million in federal funding and will be added to next year’s transportation improvement plan.
