Police: Man fled police, hid

A Tyrone man is in jail on additional charges after he allegedly tried to hide and then run from Blair County sheriff’s deputies.

Carlos J. Mills, 38, of Tyrone, was taken into custody Wednesday by deputies after he allegedly tried to hide in a home on Park Avenue.

According to charges filed by the Blair County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had a warrant for Mills out of Franklin County for a probation issue and when they drove past a home on Park Avenue, they saw Mills walk out onto the porch, go back inside and slam the door shut as the deputies turned their vehicle around.

When no one would answer the door at the home on the 600 block of Park Avenue, deputies went to the home of Mills’ father, and the senior Mills agreed to go to the Park Avenue home and open it up so deputies could look inside for his son.

When Mills’ father, Charles Mills Sr., arrived, deputies said he was met at the door by Carlos Mills, who then grabbed his father, pulled him inside and slammed the door.

Mills’ father emerged from the house and said his son would be coming out, but Mills never did.

When deputies entered the house and called out for Mills, he ignored them and ultimately, Mills was spotted in the basement hiding behind a wooden door that led to the basement’s storm door and the exterior of the house.

According to deputies, Mills ignored commands to show his hands and surrender and tried to run outside, but he was met by a waiting deputy outside.

Mills now faces a felony charge of flight to avoid apprehension and is currently lodged in Blair County Prison in lieu of $30,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is slated for Aug. 28 in Tyrone District Court.
