Man accused of being violent during arrest

A Bedford man faces multiple charges for allegedly becoming violent while resisting arrest for hit-and-run crashes.

Dakota Wesley Chalfont, 26, of 253 Imlertown Road, is charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

State troopers Kevin Wheelden and Luke Hoover were investigating multiple hit-and-run crashes that occurred on King Saint Clair Road in West St. Clair Township, Sawmill Road in East St. Clair Township and Imlertown Road in Bedford Township Tuesday, according to a criminal complaint.

A white pickup truck belonging to Chalfont reportedly was seen “fleeing the scene” of two of the crashes police were investigating.

Wheelden and Hoover interviewed Chalfont at his residence, where he allegedly admitted to driving the white truck and to one of the three crashes. The two troopers then took Chalfont into custody.

Chalfont became violent and began screaming multiple vulgar statements when placed in the rear of Wheelden’s marked patrol vehicle, the complaint states.

The defendant allegedly started thrashing his body in the rear seat and struck his face against the vehicle’s window and unbuckled himself.

When Hoover began to restrain Chalfont to try to prevent him from harming himself, the defendant reportedly struck his face against the center gun rack of the vehicle, “causing his face and head to bleed.”

Chalfont then began spitting in the vehicle and continued to fight the restraints, police said. The troopers reportedly placed a spit sock over the Chalfont’s head.

While Hoover tried to restrain Chalfont, the defendant allegedly struck Hoover in the hip area with his knee and pressed his head against the trooper’s face. He reportedly spat on the right side of Hoover’s face.

Chalfont is at Bedford County Jail on $100,000 cash bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday in front of Magisterial District Judge Cyril Bingham Jr.
