Labor Day parade planned

The Blair Bedford Central Labor Council will sponsor the 100th anniversary of the original Labor Day Parade in downtown Altoona on Saturday.

The parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Green Avenue and Ninth Street. The parade will feature the Altoona Area High School Band, Pam’s Chargers and possibly a twirling group from the Cove and marchers from the Amer­ican Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Coaltion of Labor Union Women, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 5 and float, United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 423 and float, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Local 57, Plumbers union Local 354, Ironworkers Local 3, Norfolk Southern unions, Laborers and Boiler­­makers, Steelwork­ers Local 6521 and float, Communication Workers of America and many officials and political hopefuls.

There will be candy for the children and giveaways along the parade route The parade will travel from Green Avenue and Ninth Street to 11th Ave­nue to 15th Street where it will disperse.

There will be members from the Blair County Antique Car Club attending as well in the parade.
