The Blair County West Nile Virus Program will be spraying for mosquitos in parts of Altoona and Allegheny Township Monday evening.

The program will conduct a truck-mounted, ultra-low-volume mosquito control operation in Garden Heights, Fairview and parts of Allegheny Township on Monday, although weather could cause a postponement or a cancellation, according to a news release from the county Department of Emergency Services.

The tentative alternate day for spraying is Tuesday. There also will be spraying in the Fort Fetter area Tuesday.

The spraying work begins at sunset.

Signs will be posted in the neighborhoods to be treated.

The sprayers will use Biomist 3/15, at three-quarters ounce per acre.

The material has “very low toxicity for mammals” and negligible impact to non-target insects and the environment, according to the news release.
