Child struck, killed
Man did not realize child was behind his Jeep
A 3-year-old girl was killed Saturday morning when she was struck by a Jeep in East Taylor Township, Cambria County.
A 34-year-old man left his home on the 100 block of Filmore Avenue in order to move his 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was blocking another vehicle, according to a state police information release.
The man did not realize that the 3-year-old had followed him out of the home, and when he put the Jeep in reverse, he struck the girl, police said.
The man performed CPR on the girl until emergency responders arrived about 10:20 a.m., police said.
The girl was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, where she was pronounced dead at 11:17 a.m.
State police reconstruction and forensics units responded and, according to the release, it’s unlikely that charges will be filed against the man
