Three charged after crash
Police: Passenger tossed cooler of beer into woods
A head-on collision between two cars along Colonel Drake Highway south of Skyline Drive led to the transport of two drivers with unknown injuries to UPMC Altoona Sunday.
One of the drivers, Sue Koeck, 54, of Altoona, is being charged with DUI of alcohol or controlled substance. The other driver, Alicia Hartford-Galat, 23, of Ashville, is being charged with driving on roadways laned for traffic.
Hartford-Galat was traveling north on Colonel Drake Highway when she allegedly rubbed her eyes and swerved into the opposing lane of traffic, according to a police complaint. Koeck was driving south on the highway when Hartford-Galat crashed into Koeck’s vehicle.
Responding Logan Township police officers noticed Koeck smelled of an “intoxicating beverage” and performed a field sobriety test on her, which she failed, states the report.
Jack Koeck, a passenger in the Koeck vehicle, allegedly threw a cooler full of beer into the woods prior to the police’s arrival. Police reportedly found the cooler, which contained
11 alcoholic beverages.
Jack Koeck is being charged with depositing waste and other material on highway, property or waters.
