Sheriff to address Blair County Tea Party
Blair County Sheriff Jim Ott will speak at the Blair County Tea Party meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bavarian Hall, 112 S. 13th St.
The event is free and open to the public.
Ott will talk about how people can stay safe in public if they are harassed by protesters or political opponents.
Harassment of legislators, executive branch officials, political activists and ordinary citizens has become commonplace since the 2016 election. U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., has called on people to harass Trump administration officials when they are out in public.
The protests haven’t been limited to politicians.
A 16-year-old boy was accosted at a San Antonio burger joint, where his “Make America Great Again” hat was stolen and a drink was thrown in his face. In another incident, a 56-year-old man was choked and punched while leaving a free speech event in New York.
