VA offering cool area for public

The Van Zandt VA Medical Center is opening its doors to the community to provide shelter from the heat.

Employees at the front desk will direct residents to Police Operations Office, next to the coffee shop for a visitor pass, allowing access to one of the air conditioned locations.

“It is important, that as part of this community, we assist those who are most vulnerable to heat related injury,” said Sigrid Andrew, VA Medical Center director, “we will continue to provide an air conditioned place for anyone who needs escape from the heat.”

Cambria sites open to cool off

Cambria County will be offering cooling stations for residents on Tuesday.

Sites include Mainline Senior Center in Cresson from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Ebensburg Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Johnstown Senior Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and East Hills Senior Center in Johnstown from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
