Labor Council to honor Wolf

Gov. Tom Wolf will be honored as the 2018 Person of the Year by the Blair Bedford Central Labor Council.

Wolf will be honored Sept. 13 at the 38th Annual Person of the Year Awards Dinner at the Bavarian Hall in Altoona.

The dinner will be held in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the labor council, founded in 1918.

The labor council will present the 2018 Labor Award to AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, a Pennsylvania native and Penn State graduate.

DelGrosso’s water park set to open

The Laguna Splash Water Park at DelGrosso’s Park will open for the 2018 season on Saturday.

Laguna Splash is America’s only Italian-themed Water Park and showcases a Lazy River and Wave Pool. Parking and admission into the park are free.

The Rhinestone Cowgirls Horse Show will be presented for free each day at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. There will also be a petting zoo.

The 25th annual Jaffa Antique and Classic Automobile Show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

On Monday, service members and veterans who show a form of military identification at the ticket booth will receive a free ride and slide wristband.

Bedford farm gets low-interest loan

A Bedford County farm is one of seven small farms statewide receiving low-interest loans through the Commonwealth Financing Authority for capital improvements to sustain and grow their livelihoods.

Matthew and Loretta Garman were approved for a $286,000, 12-year loan at a 3.5 percent fixed rate through the Southern Alleghenies Planning & Development Commission to construct a 22,500-square-foot, cage-free layer barn on their 110-acre farm in Hopewell Township.

The layer barn will house 10,000 hens and the organic eggs will be sold exclusively to Handsome Brook Farm.
