Fire and heavy smoke severely damaged a duplex Sunday morning at 809 Ninth St., displacing the residents who lived there.

The Altoona Police Depart­ment, which also responded to the fire, said all occupants got out safely.

Firefighters dispatched at 8:13 a.m. arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the structure’s attic, according to details and photographs posted online by Altoona Fire Department personnel. Firefighters attacked the fire via the roof and cut holes through the shingles to gain more access.

No information was available Sunday night as to the fire’s cause.
