Bedford DA won’t release names

Identities of terminated employees sought

BEDFORD — New District Attorney Lesley Childers-Potts said she Tuesday is not releasing the names of three office staff employees she terminated Friday.

The Mirror requested the release of the names, arguing that the DA’s office staff are paid with taxpayer money and that a way to build community trust is through transparency.

Childers-Potts responded by informing the Mirror that multiple news agencies have requested the release of names, as well. She indicated she is in discussion with the necessary parties to determine what information can be disclosed to the public. The DA added she wants to ensure the information shared publicly is appropriate and that she is taking the right steps since “this is all new to her.”

The Mirror also asked Bedford County Commissioner Paul Crooks about releasing the names of the terminated DA office personnel. Crooks said he personally doesn’t think any personnel information should be released publicly. He said he doesn’t know what the other commissioners, Barry Dallara and Josh Lang, think about releasing names.

The Mirror was unable to reach either Dallara or Lang for comment.
