Robertsdale man arrested after crashing a car during police chase

A Huntingdon County man is behind bars after he allegedly wrecked a car while trying to flee Logan Township police.

William Lee Myers, 22, of Robertsdale, is accused of being drunk when he drove through a red light at McMahon Road and 17th Street about 2:15 a.m. Saturday and crashed into another vehicle.

After the wreck — one police described as a violent crash — Myers ran through some woods and a yard on the 1400 block of Jaggard Street as officers gave chase. After Myers jumped a fence and refused to stop, he was hit with a Taser. Police had to use the Taser three times to subdue Myers, and it took several Logan Township and Altoona police officers to restrain him, police noted in the charges.

Police suspect Myers was drunk and an open Seagrams Strawberry Daquiri was found in the center console of the car.

It all started when a patrolling Logan Township police officer pulled behind the Lowe’s store on McMahon Road after a report of a suspected drunken driver in the parking lot.

When Logan Township police Patrolman Tyler McConnell saw Myers and another person in a 2003 Cadillac CTS pulling out, he got out of his patrol car to talk to the men. Myers allegedly sped off, and the officer saw that the Cadillac’s license plate light was out. The officer turned on his emergency lights to stop the car.

Myers allegedly accelerated through the parking lot, onto McMahon Road and then crashed when he drove through a red light.

Myers was taken to UPMC Altoona for a medical evaluation after the crash and is charged with felony fleeing and escape as well as misdemeanor charges that include resisting arrest, DUI and accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle.

Bail was set by Magisterial District Judge Daniel DeAntonio at 10 percent of $20,000 on Saturday morning. Myers remains in Blair County Prison and is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Steven Jackson on March 15.
