Rec center receives upgrades
EBENSBURG — The North Central Recreation Center is brighter and safer after recently completed upgrades as part of Cambria County’s latest capital campaign.
About $42,000 in improvements were added to the center, which has served as a public ice facility since 2004.
“The exterior and interior lights were replaced. The interior lights were upgraded to high efficiency LED bay luminaries, which are four to five times brighter,” said Ron Robertson, Cambria County director of community and economic development.
The new lights are expected to save about $6,296 in energy costs per year, said Steve St. John, general manager.
“Lighting is a key element to the safe operation of high-speed sports such as hockey and ice skating,” St. John said. “The building still had the original lighting, and it was very dim and expensive to operate.”
The lights have a wall-mount on/off switch and can be controlled remotely. Twenty-minute motion-sensor lights will provide additional cost savings.
The North Central Recreation Center is managed by SMG.
