Roberts to speak
at PSU Altoona
Terrence J. Roberts will speak at 7 p.m. March 19 in the Slep Student Center. Free tickets are available in 103 Slep.
Roberts was one of the Little Rock Nine, a group of young African-American men and women who, in 1957, were the first black students ever to attend classes at Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Ark.
In 1999, Roberts and the other members of the Little Rock Nine were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by President Bill Clinton.
Roberts published his memoir, “Lessons from Little Rock,” in 2009. A second book, “Simple Not Easy,” was published in 2010.
Bird strike forces helicopter to land
The Sinking Valley Volunteer Fire Department responded early Tuesday to Hileman Road in Tyrone Township after a State MedEvac helicopter hit a bird and was forced to land.
The fire company said on its Facebook page that the helicopter was able to land safely and no one on board was injured. The company also posted photos of the helicopter on its Facebook page.
