Spring Cove considering helpline

ROARING SPRING — In the wake of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida, the Spring Cove school district board is exploring options for a helpline.

When asked if the school district would contract with Safe School Helpline at Tuesday’s meeting, Spring Cove Superintendent Betsy Baker said: “It’s something we may propose down the road, but there are also some other options we are looking at, too, that are a little less expensive. So we are looking at all different options.”

The Altoona Area, Tyrone Area, Hollidaysburg Area and Claysburg-Kimmel school districts entered a contract with Safe School Helpline, a confidential hotline for students to report safety concerns, last week. Beginning March 1, the helpline will be available for students in these school districts.

The phone number for Safe School Helpline is 800-418-6423, ext. 359.

The Spring Cove board also approved the resignations of Nancy Gobert as middle school technology student adviser, Jessica Petrovich as middle school language arts teacher and Lucinda Helsel as middle school head cook.
