Chestnut Ridge High School’s team won the Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8’s regional qualifying competition as part of the governor’s annual STEM competition.

High school student teams are challenged to research, present and design a device or project that is capable of making the quality of life better for Pennsylvanians.

Each participating team at the regional and state levels engages with an industry partner as a mentor to guide them through their project, while connecting science, technology, engineering and math to the skills and competencies needed in industry.

Chestnut Ridge’s team was composed of Logan Melius, Logan Hauck, Shane Felix, Hailey Oldham and Jacob Stewart.

Coming in second place was Meyersdale Area High School’s team of Mary Kretchman, Rachael Miller, Emily Karlie and Trevor Gnagey.

Third place was claimed by Altoona Area High School’s team of Skyler Ketrow, Sam Casalieri, Trenton Burk and Aleah Emlet.

The statewide competition will be held May 18.
